todd wagner: session 2

todd wagner is the pastor of watermark community church in dallas. todd had some really cool things to say in session 2:

  • the way we communicate through media is incredibly powerful. you HAVE to do this.
  • “if i had been asked what was the most powerful force in history, i would say metaphor.”
  • we need to put truth in a story that resonates with people
  • the human mind is not a debating hall, it is a picture gallery. art and media matter in the church
  • people would rather see a well drawn picture than read a well written book-martin luther
  • as a speaker, he wants to entertain people (entertain = keep their attention), not to amuse people (amuse=not think. when you have a chance to engage the human soul, you better not amuse them. you better entertain them.
  • i dont believe in christian media. when you make media GREAT, thats what honors God. not if it has Jesus all the way through.
  • the most powerful marketing tool-peer to peer advertising. 2nd-product placement in movies.
  • the power of metaphor is the most powerful media in the world. metaphor is the essence of communication.
  • he used 2 samuel 16:15-17:14
  • he told his church when they were looking for land “we cannot WAIT until our building is done.” meaning the people can’t wait, they still had to do the best they could to glorify God.
  • Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
  • you might be the only Jesus movie that people ever watch
  • you must BE this (follow Christ), even before you DO this (doing media). we are God’s media to the world.
  • the greatest media tool for the gospel is the way we live our lives.
  • you can make a great video, but you’ve gotta get the gorilla out of your life. it’s hurting the cause for Christ

introduced to cary pierce who did an acoustic set to open. cool stuff and he has a cool story. breakouts to come

cheers
